The 1815 UP/DOWN is named after Ferdinand Adolph Lange’s birth year and the brand defining AUF/AB power reserve indicator. Its blued steel subdial hand glides between AUF (fully wound) and AB (power depleting), with six hour markings denoting its 72 hour reserve, a signature Lange feature.
Drawing inspiration from 19th century pocket watch styling, it sports a solid silver dial with Arabic numerals, railway track minute scale and blued steel hands. Balanced lower right small seconds and lower left power reserve subdials deliver refined symmetrical aesthetics.
It runs on manual wind Calibre L051.2. To deliver 72 hour power reserve, Lange enlarged the mainspring barrel and revised the wheel train; its distinctive traits include the extended upper wheel train and screw fastened gold chatons. Even with 36 extra power reserve components and a large barrel, the movement remains only 4.6 mm thick, showcasing Lange’s exceptional mechanical miniaturization skills.
