Debuted in 1972, this signature dial has continuously evolved over decades, spawning many coveted editions among collectors. This Ref.14790ST encapsulates a pivotal chapter in the Royal Oak’s dial evolution: its three successive dial generations document the transition from Petite to Grande Tapisserie.

Launched in the early 1990s, the Ref.14790ST came in MK1, MK2 and MK3 dial variants. The 1992 MK1 features Petite Tapisserie, slender baton indices and smaller Audemars Piguet lettering. Post-2000 MK3 adopts Grande Tapisserie, boasting a more contemporary aesthetic.

This MK2 example, produced between 1993 and 2000, sits at this transitional era. It retains the early Petite Tapisserie and elongated indices, while the brand logo is updated to a bolder, modern typeface. Blending traits from both generations, it carries tremendous collectible charm. Luminous details further elevate its appeal. Under daylight, the cream luminescent coating on baton markers and hands contrasts beautifully against the dark textured dial, delivering strong vintage character. In darkness, the hands and indices glow blue-green, revealing the sporty identity of the Royal Oak.

Measuring 36mm, this iconic 1990s golden size is increasingly rare today. Powered by the Cal.2225 automatic movement, developed based on Jaeger-LeCoultre Cal.889. The movement is finished with Geneva waves, perlage and hand bevelling, fitted with a 21K gold rotor. At merely 3.25mm thin, it pairs perfectly with the 36mm case.
