In the 1990s, most dress watches were obsessed with minimalism—“less is more.” Yet one brand chose to go against the grain and named its collection Much More. The name itself reads like a manifesto: while others subtract, it insists on adding; while others pursue restraint, it delivers abundance.
This is the spirit of Roger Dubuis’ MuchMore collection. Its “more” is immediately evident on the dial. The M28 adopts the classical rectangular silhouette of 1920s wristwatches, yet completely rejects the restrained aesthetic typical of traditional dress pieces. Instead, the dial is filled with exaggerated, distorted Roman and Arabic numerals, intertwined and radiating outward from the center. Each numeral is elongated and dramatically flared, pushing toward—almost breaking through—the boundaries of the case, creating a sense of bold, almost aggressive visual energy.
Amid this near-overflowing exuberance, however, sits a precisely structured 24-hour chapter ring at the center—calm, rational, and disciplined. This oval inner ring acts as an anchor, pulling back the surrounding visual tension and re-centering it along the axis of time. This push and pull—between emotion and reason, flamboyance and order—compresses two opposing aesthetics into a single confined dial, yet allows them to coexist in striking harmony. One cannot help but admit: in terms of dial design, the MuchMore truly delivers more.
Powering the watch is the manually wound Cal. RD18, one of the key early movements that established Roger Dubuis’ technical reputation. It bears the prestigious Geneva Seal, ensuring that every detail—from plates and bridges to beveling and screws—is meticulously hand-finished to the highest standards. The movement is also equipped with an elegant swan-neck regulator for fine adjustment, alongside the traditional gold chaton setting—hallmarks of classical haute horlogerie.
What further elevates this M28 is its extreme rarity: limited to just 28 pieces worldwide. For early Roger Dubuis watches, such a limitation is more than a number—it represents an attitude. Extremely low production, unapologetically bold design, and no compromise to mainstream taste. This interplay of “addition” in design and “subtraction” in production defines the unmistakable character of the MuchMore collection.
